My Virgin and Child is an interpretation of the famous and beautiful orthodox icon the Virgin of Vladimir.

I decided to mix low relief and round bump in order to highlight even more the love and tenderness of the Virgin Mary.

My sculpture shows a woman who is opening up to freedom.

Her body posture is both closed and open as if she was emerging from a cube

(the original shape of my stone).

Comme dans chacune de mes sculptures, les volumes sont traduits en quelques plans. Mais, ici, l'ensemble est volontairement plus massif. Le buste commence au-dessus de la taille. Les bras ne font qu'un avec le torse donnant l'impression d'un grand aplat blanc, tel une toile. Le cou disparaît dans les épaules. La tête est fortement inclinée vers l'avant. La pose semble s'être figée. C'est ainsi que le regard qui va vers la main droite, se retrouve au centre de la composition et de l'attention, nous invitant à entrer dans les pensées du personnage représenté.

 My first sculpture, when I was 17 !

The main difficulty in creating this dancer's torso lay in the representation of movement

and the realization of an arch in very shallow stone.
